TASIK – For the first time, a C-130 Hercules plane landed at Wiriadinata Airport in Cibeureum sub-district, Tasikmalaya City, Monday, July 13, 2020. The landing of the aircraft, L-100-30 version, numbered A-1318 was part of a trial of logistics delivery in natural disaster management.
Mayor of Tasikmalaya, Drs H Budi Budiman, explained, the landing of the Hercules at Wiriadinata Airport was the first time. Previously, the largest aircraft that had landed was only the CN-235 aircraft—a medium-range twin-engined transport aircraft.
According to him, the landing of the American four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft designed and built originally by Lockheed was part of a trial by the central government in tackling the natural disasters. The aircraft can function to send the logistics and evacuate the victims.
“The East Priangan area is prone to disasters. In this disaster situation need evacuation, logistical support, and so on. In this emergency situation, the aircraft is the most effective because it speaks of time,” he said at Wiriadinata Airport.
Budi was grateful that the landing of the Air Force’s aircraft went smoothly without the obstacles even though the runway conditions were not yet sufficient. “This aircraft, we saw for ourselves earlier in it is very broad and nationally, in the incident of a disaster, to evacuate and (send) the logistics (using) this aircraft. So, alhamdulillah smoothly and in the future, we can anticipate the disasters,” he said.
Looking ahead, Budi wants the aircraft landing at Wiriadinata Airport to be held at night. The regional government has submitted the proposal to the Ministry of Transportation including the Commander of the Indonesian Air Force Operations Command (Pankoops) 1. “We hope that there is a tool needed because the runway lights are available. Only one tool is not yet available (Instrument Landing System/ILS, Ed.),” Budi revealed.
Wiriadinata Air Force Base Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Nav, Ali Sudirman Pasaribu SH, said that since three years ago, the runway at Wiriadinata Airport had been extended. “So it is very possible for the Hercules to enter our airstrip. The East Priangan region is a disaster-prone area, so we must prepare the contingency plans,” he said.
In the inaugural trial of the Hercules aircraft, the pilot was a Commander of the 31st Air Squadron, Lt. Col. Pnb Marvin. Tasikmalaya Mayor Drs H. Budi Budiman; Deputy Mayor H. M Yusuf; Tasikmalaya City Police Chief, Police Commissioner (AKBP) Anom Karibianto; and Deputy Chairman of the Tasikmalaya City People’s Representative Council (DPRD) Nurul Awalin also witnessed the landing of the Hercules aircraft.
